Mental health is crucial for everyone, and unfortunately, it’s often overlooked. It’s important because it impacts our daily lives and affects how we make decisions. Without mental health, it can be a struggle to maintain healthy relationships, prevent enjoyment of life, and have severe implications on physical health. For example, depression can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke (CDC, 2021).

In recent years it has become more common to discuss mental health and the importance of coping mechanisms to maintain it. Coping mechanisms are strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and any mental health challenges. You can utilize many different coping mechanisms to support good mental health. Here are some strategies you can use to manage stress (CDC, 2021):

● Take breaks from tuning in to the news
● Eat healthily
● Exercise regularly
● Get enough sleep
● Do activities that you enjoy
● Write in a journal
● Connect with others
● Avoid excessive alcohol

Making mental health a priority can improve your overall health and happiness. It’s good to be aware of the many coping mechanisms and how to use them to support your mental health. From journaling and creative expression to creating connections with others and adopting healthy habits, you can invest in yourself and your mental health.
