Have you ever experienced challenges with healthcare access or felt discouraged from seeking medical attention due to factors such as travel distances, waiting in crowded waiting rooms, or difficulties scheduling appointments? If so, telemedicine may be the perfect solution for you. Telemedicine allows doctors to meet with their patients remotely over the computer or phone. Patients can conveniently be present for these appointments while also being in the comfort of their homes. However, it’s not applicable when procedures or physical examinations are necessary.
The benefits of telemedicine for patients include taking fewer trips outside the home, reduced exposure to contagious diseases, and better chances of being seen sooner (Telehealth HHS, 2023). As a result, virtual appointments are becoming increasingly appealing to patients, especially those who live in remote areas or don’t have access to transportation. A 2022 Insights Study by CVS concluded that “50% of providers say the addition of virtual care has increased patient visits” (CVS Health, 2022).
Getting started with telemedicine involves checking with your provider to see if they offer telemedicine services. Also, depending on your insurance you may have a covered telemedicine option included in your benefits package. There may be an app that you need to download and set up a profile to schedule a virtual visit. If you haven’t tried telemedicine yet and are thinking about it, take advantage of this innovative healthcare service and see the convenience and other benefits for yourself.
